While most of us are anticipating a brighter future, we rarely make much progress toward it. There is a simple reason for this. We do the same things every day and become complacent with our words and behaviors. Instead of making decisions that have the potential to push us toward personal growth and a happy life, we simply default to the same decisions time after time. If we really want a brighter life and better tomorrow, we have to make new choices.
If you are serious about moving forward with your life, the following choices will help start you in that direction. Choosing to do just a few of the things below is likely to boost your positive energy, increase the excitement in your life, and push you in the direction of your dreams and goals.
1. Let the real you be seen at least once a day.
Unfortunately, many of us have been conditioned to become emotional robots that bite our tongues, cry behind closed doors, and maintain a neutral expression despite our feelings. In a result to fit in with others, we are telling ourselves that others will not like us or think negatively about us if we allow them to see our true selves.
If this sounds familiar, it is time to drop the act and come out of your shell at least once a day. Tell someone how you really feel, laugh if something is funny, and cry when something upsets you, even if you are unsure of how others will react. As you begin to do this regularly, it will become quite simple to be your true self in public.
This may be difficult to begin with, especially if you have been taught to hide your thoughts and feelings. However, the more uncomfortable you are will only result in you feeling more liberated. Give yourself permission to be who you actually are. It’s an empowering feeling.
2. Smile and reach out to people you tend to ignore.
Instead of slinking by with your head down, smile and nod as you pass someone. Wave at a neighbor you have never met. By sharing a little bit of love with others, love will make its way back to you. Plus, you are sure to brighten up someone’s day.
3. Opt to do something fun for yourself, despite how busy you may be.
If you are one of those people who insist on waiting until all the work is done to have fun, you are going to be waiting forever. Here’s the thing….there is always going to be something that needs to be done.
If you want to have fun, you have to make time for it. Take a break from your endless list of things to do and go out for lunch, watch a movie you have been wanting to see, head outside and play with your kids, or anything else that you can think of. Take the chance to have fun and you will realize that you are attracting more fun to your life.
4. Give out sincere compliments.
When you compliment others ( and actually mean it), you attract the same thing back to you. Don’t be afraid to tell someone that they have done a good job, that you like their outfit, etc. Take a second let them know that you are impressed.
5. Do one of the things on your “to do” list that you have been putting off forever.
To really progress in life, you have to take the opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and do something that you have always wanted to do, but haven’t quite got up the courage to try. It doesn’t have to be something huge; it just needs to be something that you have been thinking about for a while and have wanted to do. Taking a tiny step in the direction of progress each day will get the momentum going that you need to accomplish your goals and get you to the place you want to be in life.
6. Help someone, without expecting anything in return.
If your goal is to really get something in this life, you have to give what you can. This doesn’t have to be something huge. It can be as simple as picking up a piece of paper someone dropped and handing it to them, helping someone in the grocery store grab something out of their reach, or any other thing that could benefit someone. The key is to do it without expecting reciprocation.
When you expect something in return, it lessens the power of giving because it is conditional generosity. When we offer conditional generosity, we receive the same from others, and find ourselves stuck in a cycle of obligation.
7. Make a wish for the future.
You have to dream in order to make a better life for yourself. Stop every day and take a second to make a small wish. It could be something as small as “I want my kids to behave today” or as big as “I want to meet my soulmate.” When you wish more, you will receive more.
8. Forgive someone who has hurt, upset, or annoyed you.
Many of us easily get upset with others throughout the day. From the person driving incredibly slow in front of you when you are in a hurry to the person a couple of seats away who talks throughout the entire movie, it’s easy (and normal) to get irritated.
However, if you hold on to this hate in your heart, it only decreases your vibrational energy and attracts unwanted situations. Pick one person who has “wronged” you and let them off the hook. You will notice that your quality of life will improve as you choose to forgive and forget.
